Lot 33<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Stylish quarter-plate Scottish ambrotype with a brass mat stamp for Bowman, Glasgow. This is most likely James Bowman but there was also an Andrew Bowman listed across the street from him. Captured in a business-like pose the young gentleman sits with his arm leaning on a large carved desk which has a brownish hue. We see two hand tinted books barely in view on the far right. A lovely hand tinted scene is in the faux window on the left. Our sitter is quite happy in the studio as he holds his small, tinted book open to a favorite passage. The image has strong tones and contrast with some spots and some cracking in the black backing, and there is a small ring of black hair behind the plate. \u00a0It is housed in a black union case, \u201cCupid and the Stag\u201d Berg 1-28. The case has some wear with rounded or nicked corners along with some other small fleabites and a small unnoticeable hairline crack on one rail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
