When she was young her voice was a high soprano but as she aged it lost some of the highest notes but gained power. In 1874 Kellogg organized an opera company widely known in the United States. In 1913 she published her memoirs, entitled <em>Memoirs of an American Prima Donna.<\/em> There is a variant of this photograph with Clara wearing the same outfit in the National Portrait Gallery.
