Lot 1<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Superior late 1840\u2019s quarter-plate daguerreotype of a young Navy midshipman.\u00a0\u00a0Full of confidence, this handsome dashing young man’s pose exhudes dominance. You can see the determination in his face and he surely rose up the ranks quickly! His buttons and the anchor on his collar have been gold-gilded and you can see a hint of the serpentine design on the anchor under the gold. The plate is in very good plus condition with strong tones and contrast. There is some light plate tarnish as seen that looks like tinting on his face. This could be professionally removed but we prefer to leave images in a natural state when possible. The plate had an older but not original seal and we have now resealed it with a new glass. It has a L.B. Binesse & Co. plate mark which Rinhart dates to 1844-48. This rare image is housed in a very nice full late 1840\u2019s floral case with a repaired hinge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
