Extremely rare rosewood style box with a mounted daguerreotype of a refined gentleman. This was purchased along with an identical top with a daguerreotype of what seems to be the gentleman\u2019s father. One short rail on the father\u2019s top has been replaced. The previous seller didn\u2019t have the base to this box but we assume it was originally a matching pair. The box has gold-colored metal trim that is missing in certain areas. The lids are interchangeable. The inside of the box has shellac with a slightly orange hue that might have been applied at a later date but could be original. The box measures approximately 3 1\/8\u201d x 4 3\/8\u201d on the outside. The daguerreotypes have strong tones and contrast with a number of spots under the glass and some on the plate. The older man\u2019s image has a few pinprick green spots as seen.
