The plate has a pencil inscription on the back as “William Henry Mullen about four years old “which makes sense from the date of the image; however, we suspect that he is actually at least five or six. He is quite the cool character as he casually leans on the table, holding a fabulous wicker basket. He is wearing a killer outfit of a long, checkered tunic cinched with a black belt. The cool round belt buckle has a design that appears to be an anchor. To finish his ensemble he is sporting a great straw hat. Unfortunately, according to records, William only lived to seventeen. The daguerreotype is in excellent minus condition with strong beautiful tones and contrast. A small extremely light spot and the hint of a few of the tiny mat marks are seen. The plate had old seals intact with a Scovill Mfg. Extra hallmark. We have resealed it with a new glass.

Opening bid $470

Lot 12 Exquisite half-plate daguerreotype of William Henry Mullen, son of Jonathan and Franny.
