Charming quarter-plate daguerreotype of an adorable child posed holding his feathered hat. Mesmerized by the camera, this young tot wears a yellow/cream tinted dress with pantaloons. He’s also sporting socks or long johns that have small tinted spots everywhere. A white creamy background enhances the tonal qualities of the daguerreotype. The plate had a few partial old seals remaining, but they were not intact. A small line of tarnish is visible on the perimeter with some small tarnish spots on the plate. When held at an angle there are also pinprick size spider spots scattered about that could possibly be removed with a distilled water rinse. All we have done is reseal the image with new glass. Enclosed in a full leather case.
