Gentleman with his walking stick
| Sharp quarter-plate stereo daguerreotype of a very distinguished gentleman holding an elegant, black walking stick. He has a very pleasant look on his face, almost exhibiting a smile. This is a very detailed image that views wonderfully in 3-D. As with all great stereo daguerreotypes his full beard and what remains of his curly hair add dimension and depth, along with the folds in his tie, his starch white collar and the lapels of his jacket. The finally touch is the way he holds his walking stick, almost giving the appearance that he is walking your way. Light tinting has been applied to the man’s face and lips. The plates are in excellent condition with a band of perimeter tarnish and a few small spots. There is one small mat abrasion on the man’s sleeve on the left image. This is virtually unnoticeable, especially when viewing in stereo. It is housed in a full leather pushbutton case in excellent condition. $1,200 |
