Adorable sixth-plate daguerreotype of an interesting young girl in a delightfully casual and spontaneous pose. Our young subject has an unusual bone structure as evidenced by her rather large and slightly protruding forehead. This could possibly be a clue to her ethnicity or perhaps just an expressive feature. Either way this little cutie has curly hair and is wearing a dress with lace sleeves and visible pantaloons. Her dress has slightly slipped off her shoulders on the left side to reveal the strap of what is undoubtedly her camisole. She has a tight grasp on the simple wooden chair, with one leg on the back of the seat and the bottom of her shoe pressing against the side of the chair. The plate is in excellent condition and has had an extremely light, brief electrolytic cleaning to remove a few brown tarnish spots. It is currently resealed with Filmoplast tape and a new cover glass. A nice ring of blue perimeter tarnish is present and the focus on her face is just slightly soft. There are two light lines visible at the very top of the right corner and an extremely light brown line on her arm holding the chair. These appear original to the plate and are not scratches. Housed in a full leather case, this is a delightful image. $450 |
