Medical School

Gruesome yet fascinating albumen of a group of students dissecting a male corpse. While the extreme lower part of the legs, feet and right arm are intact, the rest of the skin has been pulled away to expose tissue and internal organs. All of the men hold scalpels, while the one on the right and the young gentleman second from the left refer to their open books. The man on the far left is champing on his cigar, while the young man forth from left holds his cigar in his hand while peeling away part of the face. This photo has deep rich tones with a few light marks in the upper left corner. It has also been printed with a double exposure effect on the far left. The back-stamp is for Mulligan Bros., Columbus, Oh. Perhaps this is an early photograph of Ohio State Medical Students in training. Mounted to a thin board that measures 9 3/4” x 11 3/4”, the photo measures 7 1/2” x 9 1/2.”
