Vibrant quarter-plate English daguerreotype of a stoic gentleman posed in a great wooden chair before a plain backdrop and accented by a sweeping drape to the right. We love the slight nuances of this image as the top of the chair on the left side seems to fade away. Also the hint of a wrinkle in the cloth background on the right side creates a slight sense of movement. The plate is in very good plus condition with great tones and contrast with tinting on his face and lips. It had old seals attached and we have now resealed it in a full case with a gorgeous design on the velvet mat inside.
