Lot 33
Enchanting ninth-plate ambrotype of a handsome young man posing in a rare chaise lounge and staring directly at the photographer. He is sporting a cool hat and some type of badge or medallion on the lapel of his dark jacket. He wears a matching pair of gray pants and vest underneath the jacket. The furniture is fascinating; at first glance it appears to have been created by putting pillows on the ground or maybe even on a bed but peaking under the mat shows that it is apparently a bulky chaise lounge. To add further intrigue, the mat has a Civil War theme that has the US flag on the top corners, a drum on the bottom left and a cannon on the right with an eagle below. It reads Constitution and Union along the bottom. There is a smeared ink note behind the image which we can’t decipher but a scan is provided. The plate is in excellent condition with nice tones and contrast and some tint to his face. It has the original blackened tintype for backing. It is housed in a full case.
