Breathtaking quarter-plate ambrotype of a mother and daughter in one of the more artistic poses you will find. Judging from their outfits this could be a mourning portrait.  Both are wearing elegant black dresses, black leather gloves and black hats with black ribbons tied around their necks. Mom is placed seated on the left holding her umbrella while her daughter sits in a highly decorative window opening on the right. The photographer is not identified, but this is surely a high-end studio considering the professional nature of the setting. The image has the markings of a mourning piece as the mother has a contemplative look on her face. The daughter looks more serious with her hand grabbing the window for support. This stunning piece is in excellent condition with great tones and contrast with light tint to their faces and lips. It is housed in a very nice full case with a great plain purple velvet pad.
