Tranquil cabinet card of a farming homestead outside of Santa Fe, NM. The photographer has created a picture perfect scene with a farmer plowing a small stretch of land near their home. He obviously knew he was being photographed as he looked directly at the photographer. There are three women in the background in the front yard. One glances to the left side where we see a man posed on a ladder with a basket of fruit from the numerous trees planted on the farm. On the right side we see the family home and other outbuildings. On the bottom corner of the left side we see an adobe house possibly for storage or just a remnant of the past. The snow-covered mountains frame this wonderful outdoor image that speaks to the early hardships of farming.
The back of the card has a wonderful advertisement for the “Health Seeker” and the benefits and joys of Santa Fe. There are ads for the Denver and Rio Grand R.R., and Jacob Weltmer, Books, Stationery, Periodicals and Santa Fe views for sale, as well as Gold’s General Store and Dealer in Indian and Mexican Curios, Abe Gold and KAADT & Whitlock, Wholesale and Retail View House, Views of everything of interest, also Villages and Indians.
The image has very nice tones and contrast with sharp detail. There is some light wear on the photo with the mount having some small loss on the bottom corners and some chipping on the edges as seen.
