Impressive cabinet card of a massive Scottish crowd gathered by the Forbes Fountain outside the Town Hall on High Street in Inverness. The Forbes Fountain was gifted to the town and people of Inverness by local benefactor Dr. George Fiddes Forbes of Millburn in 1880. Dignitaries appear to be entering the hall with military men on the bottom right. There are a large number of girls and women dressed in white with men in their customary suits. A large group of people are behind a fence in front of the Tartan Warehouse shop in the background. The Royal Tartan Warehouse, on High Street in Inverness was built 1878-1879, it was designed by the architects Matthews & Lawrie. The three-story Baronial-style building has the Royal Arms carved into a central gable.” There is an Inn on the right side but we can’t decipher the name as it appears to be in Gaelic. The photo has great detail and is in very good condition with strong tones and contrast and some light wear as seen. By A. Cooper & Co. Inverness, Scotland.
