Five Maine photographs including two cdv tintypes and three cdvs. The three cdvs show what appears to be family members and most likely a mother and daughter. All are by Loring’s Rooms, Eastport, Me. Craig’s Registry list Davis Loring in Eastport as early as 1855. His original studio was destroyed by the Great Fire of October 14, 1886. All three are strong portraits and one has a long inscription, but we can’t decipher the name. The younger girl is identified on back as Aunt Charlotte and the younger woman in profile has a canceled two cent revenue stamp on the back. The two tintypes seem to be from the same family. The paper mount image has nice tones and contrast with some wrinkle lines in the topcoat of the varnish on the bottom. The woman in deep thought is an extremely strong portrait with as nice tones and contrast as you will find. The condition is also exceptional. This is quite a stunning and dramatic portrait and possibly a mourning image since she is dressed in black. This was part of an album consigned to us which featured Civil War, singers and author photos.
