The Mississippi River cc1370

The Mississippi River

Killer St. Louis boudoir cabinet card showing the Mississippi River with the Eads Bridge in the background. We see a coal barge in the foreground along with men working on a tugboat. There is a hint of a large boat on the bottom perimeter and a lifesaving float by Napoleon Mullikin attached at the rail. Napoleon Mullikin was a packet boat that was built in 1879 by E.J. Howard & CO., Howard Shipyards in Jefferson, IN. Its hull number was 130171 and it was 165 Feet. Information was courtesy of the Naval Marine Archive, The Canadian Collection website. There is a gorgeous large steamboat navigating the river by the bridge with buildings to the left. The image is in very good condition with strong tones and contrast. There is a hint of wear and along the far right perimeter if you tilt the image in strong light there is a light writing indent. We assume someone wrote on a paper on top of the image in the past. We actually just noticed this ourselves and we doubt you would even see it but it is there.  $50
