Lot 101
Lot 101
Engaging cabinet card identified on the back as The Black Watch. This would have been the 3rd Battalion, an infantry battalion of the Royal Regiment of Scotland. The regiment was created as part of the Childers Reforms in 1881, when the 42nd (Royal Highland) Regiment of Foot (The Black Watch) was amalgamated with the 73rd (Perthshire) Regiment of Foot. It was known as The Black Watch (Royal Highlanders) from 1881 to 1931. Most of the regiment is holding or drinking from bowls but a hardcore guy in the front row tips a large bucket. Five Indian men are seen back left with most holding the same bowls and one displaying either documents or possibly food. There is one Indian gentleman on the far right back who is dressed for the outdoor elements and most likely accompanied the Watch on their local missions. The image is in very good plus condition with nice tones and contrast. It is a little lighter on the far left from the sun as seen. By D. N. Bali & Sons, Rawalpindi and Murree. Please see the following lot for a related image.
