Fabulous quarter-plate French oval daguerreotype of a handsome young soldier. The image is identified on the back with a label that reads E. Fixon, A Paris, Rue Neuve-Vivienne, 33, Admis a l ‘Exposition de 1849. This was Pierre Eugène Fixon (1811- after 1875), an early French daguerreotypist who operated in Paris from the 1840s to 1870s. His work was exhibited at the French national expositions of 1849 and 1855.

This handsome young soldier is dressed in a traditional French military uniform with gold gilded buttons and some gold embellishments on his shoulders. His hat on the table and his pants show a very light hint of blue tint that still remains. The image is in very good condition with a light haze/tarnish that might be professional conserved is so desired. One small line is visible on the right perimeter. We loosened the label that was still partially sealed to the back and removed the image to clean the glass. It is housed in an oval black wood frame that has some wear. The original loop is still attached on the back to go right on your wall!
