Lot 17

Tender sixth-plate daguerreotype of a brother and sister identified as Lyman and Alice Pratt. We love the way Lyman places his hand on his sister’s shoulder as if to say “it’s fine sis.” With his blonde hair and big eyes he seems so relaxed for a young child. Alice is a little tense, sitting in the chair with her legs dangling below. She wears a lovely polka-dot dress with a daguerreian watch locket draped around her neck. Lyman is stylish in his expensive suit and hand tucked in his pocket. According to research the kid’s parents were Julius Franklin and Loraine, (Snow), Pratt and they resided in Jacksonville, IL. Julius is listed as a farmer so he must have been a prosperous gentleman judging from the children’s clothing. The image is in excellent minus condition with great tones and contrast along with some light tinting to the kids’ faces. The image had old seals attached and we have resealed it with a new glass. It is housed in full case with the pencil identification pinned on the velvet.
