Marvelous late 1840’s quarter-plate daguerreotype of a woman by Southworth and Hawes. This is identified by their signature chair and the typical plain brown leather slightly undersized case with small decorative corners. We will refer you to Craig’s Registry for all the information on the illustrious history of Southworth and Hawes as it is too lengthy to include here. We sense a little nervousness from our sitter who is dressed in a lovely black dress with extremely intricate black lace highlights attached at her shoulders, arms and wrists. Her purse is noticed in her lap on the left side. As always with this Boston studio it is a brilliant plate in excellent condition. There is a slight hint of color to her cheeks and lips. The plate had old seals intact and we have resealed it with a new glass. It is housed in a full case with a pneumatic leather repair on the hinge.
