Two spectacular British outdoor half-plate ambrotype’s (4” x 5” each) showing lush gardens surrounding a large estate. The first image has a woman posed in the background sitting in her chair with hat in hand. We have examined her under magnification and either this is a postmortem or she is sleeping as her head is leaning forward with her eyes closed. Now this could have been bad timing on her part or the photographer’s, but this certainly has the potential to be one of the more interesting postmortems you will find. We have tried to provide close-up scans to the best of our ability for your determination. The other image shows a more expansive view of another area of the grounds. These two ambrotype’s have a “higher silver” content as in the right light they almost glisten like a daguerreotype. Both are in excellent minus condition with beautiful tones and contrast. Neither image is cased but these would be stunning as a pair in a single leather case.
