Treasured ninth-plate ambrotype of an attractive young woman holding her calico kitten. She is identified on a card that was included with the image and the previous owner read it as Miss Olivia Peyton Gallatin, MS. There was an Olivia Peyton born in Gallatin Mississippi in 1844 and if this is a 1858-1860 ambrotype the age would fit. With bright eyes open to their fullest she gently cuddles her precious kitten. She wears an interesting off the shoulder dress with pleats extending from the unusual cut. The plate is in excellent minus condition with nice tones and contrast and some light tinting to her cheeks and gold gilding to her locket.  It is housed in a full case.
