Lot 41

Artistic slightly undersized ninth-plate tintype, (1 ¾” x 2 3/8”), of a young man reading his book by the widow of his room. He wears a fashion forward sweater coat with a stylish hat. He leans back in his chair with two of the legs off the ground and his feet propped on an unknown object. There is an impressive display of books in the bookcase behind him and there is a cool oil lamp on the top. There is a can of something that appears to read Peabody when it is laterally reversed. The diamond shaped wallpaper only adds to the cool ambience of the room. The image has great tones and contrast and there is some light wear. At an angle and in light we see a light line through the young man. This is one of our favorite reader images.
