Lot 59
Great medallion CDV of nine men. We have not identified this particular grouping but at least a couple of the men are familiar to us. If anyone has some information it would be appreciated as our consignor had no information either. The photo is by Hallett and Brothers. It was entered into the Act of Congress in 1865 in the Southern District of New York. The photo has a wrinkle/crease line in the middle as seen. It is not bent there but it is obvious when viewing. Thanks to some new information from Ken Burkhart we have identified the men in this cdv. Influential Pastors in Lincoln’s Life – Issued after Assassination
Wonderful carte de visite containing apparently 9 clergymen, probably all connected to Lincoln. It was issued in 1865 and notably includes:
Bishop Matthew Simpson [11 O’Clock], Bishop of the Methodist Church, friend of Abraham Lincoln, Religious Voice of the Union, and the person chosen to preach Lincoln’s funeral in Springfield, IL.
Also includes Presbyterian, Phineas D. Gurley [2 O’Clock], who preached Lincoln’s Funeral in Washington, D.C.
Published, Hallett & Brother, 1865.
