Lot 72

Serene boudoir cabinet card showing Mt. Shasta in the background.  This artistic photograph shows the railroad tracks in the foreground with two rolled travel packs lying on the platform. Were they from someone riding the rails, a paying customer or maybe the photographer B.C. Towne? We will never know but it definitely adds to that sense of excitement of the 19th century west. A small town is seen in the background and there is a livery stable along with horses and saddles on the far right- certainly a necessity in this remote wilderness. A herd of cattle is visible in the fenced area on the left and we see chickens roaming on the right. The image is in very good condition with great tones and contrast. There are some spots as seen with most being on the mount. By B.C. Towne Photo Co., Portland, Oregon.  We also love their ad on the back that reads, “Take your babies to Towne.”
