Inviting photo of Bacon Hall on the campus of the University California, Berkeley. According to Berkley Architectural Heritage Association page, “The Bacon Art and Library Building was designed by John A. Remer and constructed in 1881. It was the University of California’s first library building, with the art gallery occupying the third floor. It was named for Henry Douglas Bacon, who donated his library and a construction gift of $25,000. John Galen Howard designed an addition in 1902.” The building stood on the campus until 1961. The flagpole on the right was removed after the San Francisco earthquake for safety reasons. It is gorgeous structure and from a description online the inside was equally impressive. The Berkeley Hills in the background establish a perfect setting for this early campus view. The image is in excellent minus condition with lovely tones and contrast. The decorative mount is a fabulous addition. It measures 6”x 7” with the photo 3 7/8” x 4 1/2.”
