Stunning cabinet card of the Grand Duchess Olga Constantinovna of Russia who was the Queen of Greece and wife of King George I. She was a member of the Romanov dynasty as the oldest daughter of Grand Duke Constantine Nikolaievich and his wife, Princess Alexandra of Saxe-Altenburg. She married King George I in 1867 at age 16. The king was assassinated in 1913 and she was trapped there until after the Russian Revolution of 1917. The Danish embassy then secured her release to Switzerland. She couldn’t return to Greece as her son King Constatine I had been deposed. In 1920 Olga returned to Athens because of the fatal illness of her grandson King Alexander of Greece. After his death, she was appointed regent until the restoration of Constantine I the following month. A gorgeous young woman, Olga certainly has a glimmer in her eyes. Little did she know at this time what hardships would dominate her life. The image is in excellent condition with deep rich tones and beautiful contrast. By L. V. Angerer. Wein.
