Interesting cabinet card cabinet showing the office staff of the engineers of the A. Ransome and Co., April 1881. A. Ransome & Co. was established in Chelsea, London, in 1868. They were an important firm which designed and manufactured woodworking along with timber-handling machinery and iron founders. In 1885 they were awarded a gold medal for the invention of cask-making machinery and a tree-felling machine. In the image, we see seventeen men and one younger lad outside the main building, along with some castings on the right and some type of lift behind them. Allen Ransome, the gentleman with the long beard, sits on the stones on the far left. The image is in very good condition with decent tones and contrast with some wear as seen. There is a photographer’s stamp on the back for The Graphoscopic Company of Charing Cross, London.
