Extremely rare rosewood style box with a mounted daguerreotype of a refined gentleman. This was purchased along with an identical top with a daguerreotype of what seems to be the gentleman’s father. One short rail on the father’s top has been replaced. The previous seller didn’t have the base to this box but we assume it was originally a matching pair. The box has gold-colored metal trim that is missing in certain areas. The lids are interchangeable. The inside of the box has shellac with a slightly orange hue that might have been applied at a later date but could be original. The box measures approximately 3 1/8” x 4 3/8” on the outside. The daguerreotypes have strong tones and contrast with a number of spots under the glass and some on the plate. The older man’s image has a few pinprick green spots as seen. These wood decorative boxes are not often available so grab this one with two lids!
