Superior hand-tinted quarter-plate daguerreotype of seven young friends or family members. We can see their various personalities, from the flamboyant long-haired man in the middle to the matter-of-fact woman with her arms crossed and the dashing gentleman with a stylish mustache on the back right. We love the ordinary cloth background and the cool simple wood floor in foreground as they each add a different sense of tonality. The gorgeous wrap, along with flowers in the woman’s bonnet on the left have been tinted red while on the opposite side the woman’s dress has been skillfully tinted a gorgeous shade of red. The pattern of her dress is stunning in its own right but the photographer or a hired artist was clearly extremely talented as this is as nice of an American tinted daguerreotype as you will find. The plate is in excellent minus condition with stunning tones and contrast along with a hint of tint to their faces. It had old seals intact and we have now resealed it with a new glass. It has an L.B. Binesse & Co. plate mark. It is housed in a lovely floral full leather case. It was tough to capture the beauty of this daguerreotype!
