Treasured sixth-plate daguerreotype of a sophisticated woman identified by a brass mat stamp to C.H. Williamson. This was, of course, Charles Williamson who operated in Brooklyn, NY and was known for his expert hand tinting, especially the skilled application of flesh tones. She was certainly a woman of means and clearly known for her fashion sense as her outfit exhibits numerous techniques. We see an expertly tailored dress with perfectly placed dark piping and cutting edge fringe mid-arm, above white lace cuffs. A gold-gilded broach is seen on her beautiful lace collar and a long, gilded chain around her neck for her watch or pen. The plate is in excellent minus condition with sharp tones and contrast with expertly tinted flesh tones on her face and hands. The image had old seals attached and we have resealed it with a new glass. It is housed in a full case. Please see the following lot for what might be her daughter.
