Lot 20
Stunning large gold engraved locket with a light house scene and a pair of daguerreotypes. Inside we see a boy with most likely his mother although it could be his older sister. The young lad displays some confidence and cockiness with his head slightly tilted. The young woman seems a little more reserved. Both images are sharp with very nice tones and contrast. The boy’s plate has a tiny green spot at the top with some extremely light spider lines on the far-left side.
The locket’s front cover really sparkles with the lighthouse in the foreground, a sailing ship on the water with a house and evergreen on the left. Another house with a mountain is seen in the background and the border is an intricate filigree. The back is just the filigree pattern with a box for an engraved name that is blank. It is a pushbutton style and while it generally stays closed a small area is missing on the latch which keeps it tightly closed. This could be repaired by a professional. This measures 1 ¾ inches in diameter.
